Use of the Canada Organic Logo on imported organic products

The CFIA has been approached by several CBs asking for clarification on what is considered an “imported product” for the purposes of section 25(c) of the OPR.

Section 25(c) of the OPR requires that imported organic products bearing the logo must have the statement “Product of” immediately preceding the name of the country of origin on the label or the word “imported” in close proximity to the logo.
The issue was discussed during the CB-COO WG on April 15, 2015. As a result of this discussion the CFIA has prepared a memo to clarify when an organic product is considered an imported organic product in accordance with Section 25(c) of the OPR.

Please see the copy of the memo for your information.
